WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DENTAL CROWNS 👑: A Protective Helmet For Your Teeth🦷

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] I’m sure you may have heard your dentist say “You going to need a crown” 👑 but since we know that most of us are not in line for the throne….let’s discuss exactly what does it mean to need a crown in dental terms! 🦷

Let’s start with answering these 2 questions:

-WHAT IS A DENTAL CROWN?

-AND WHY WOULD YOUR TOOTH NEED A CROWN?

So, after reading this post today, you will know what dentists mean when they say: “You going to need a crown.”

I’m Dr. Rodriguez General and Cosmetic Dentist in Cartagena, Colombia. I’m here with another post to help you get the beautiful smile you desire. I’m glad to see more people interested in taking care of their dental health, so I love this opportunity to welcome you to my blog.

WHAT IS A DENTAL CROWN?

A crown is a dental device used to cover or “cap” a tooth that’s badly formed, damaged or discolored. Crowns can also act as a cover for dental implants. Think of a crown like a helmet to protect your tooth, just like football players wear helmets to protect their head and brain. Crowns will protect your teeth, the nerve inside them or protect your dental implants. You will be more protected from damages while improving the esthetic appearance of your smile. Crowns can be made of zirconia, metal, porcelain fused to metal, or 100% porcelain.

” I am from the Nashville, TN area and I have been to the best dentists in the area. I was quoted an unaffordable price for three crowns and a night guard. I visited Dr. Rodriguez instead. She is the best dentist I have ever been to! She is a perfectionist and will keep working, until you are satisfied and everything is perfect. Her English is great and we had no problems communicating. Dr. Rodriguez will be doing ALL my major dental work from now on! “

Happy Dental Crown

Now that you know what a dental crown is. Let’s Talk About The Second Question… Exactly what it does it mean when your dentist says “you going to need a crown”. Majority of the time, your dentist simply means your tooth can’t survive by itself without some type of support or better protection.

The main purpose of a dental crown is to prevent you from further creating more damage to your tooth. Especially weak teeth that has experienced some form of trauma or decay. So commonly you will need a crown when your tooth “at risk of” or “has had”:

● Severe decay

● A large filling and, there isn’t much tooth left

● A root canal treatment

● An extreme crack

But also crowns are used to:

● To hold a dental bridge in place.

● To cover deformed teeth.

● To cover a dental implant.

● Or to make a cosmetic modification, such as cover a discolored tooth.

-HOW LONG DO DENTAL CROWNS LAST?

On average, a dental crown can be expected to last about 10-20 years. However, some factors will influence the longevity of your crowns, such as the amount of remaining tooth, the dentist experience, the type of material used for the crown and how you take care of your teeth at home.

-CROWNS ARE MADE OF DIFFERENT MATERIALS. Let me tell you about my preference which is based on quality for my patient.

Crowns are made of a variety of materials, and new materials are being introduced all the time. At our dental office, we offer the following options.

●      PORCELAIN: it’s a strong but translucent material which means that they look very natural and blend in well with the rest of your teeth.

●      ZIRCONIA: which is the most durable material available at this moment, provides you with excellent durability while giving you a natural-looking smile.

-HOW MANY VISITS DO I NEED TO COMPLETE A DENTAL CROWN?

Typically two to three visits will be required to finish your crown.

In the best scenario, on the first visit, your tooth will be reshaped, and If it’s necessary, a root canal and post will be performed as well.

Then we will take an impression of your tooth and place a temporary crown so you can look normal walking around.

At the second visit, we “try-in” the final crown, adjusting your bite as necessary and cement the crown on your tooth.

-HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH AFTER A CROWN?

Prevent damage to your crown is very easy; all you have to do is:

● Brush twice daily and floss once a day to remove plaque

● Avoid biting hard foods and objects.

● Visit your dentist regularly.

Always remember, your natural tooth is still underneath the crown, so at the gum line your tooth is still vulnerable to having decay. To avoid it, I recommend you watch the video: ONE EASY TRICK TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR DENTAL VENEERS AND CROWNS.
